America Ruins the World
The earth is our source of nourishment and sustenance. Is today's society destroying it with all their waste and pollution? Yes, the earth that we once loved and worshiped is disintegrating below our feet. Pretty soon, nothing will be left but "concrete jungles," forcing poverty and death upon the developing countries of the world. Our inconsideration toward mother earth is leading to an array of problems in today's world. This devastation can cease quite simply with acknowledgement, consideration, and participation. First, America must acknowledge the effects our waste and pollution has on the world around us. Next, we must develop consideration for the earth and the people we are hurting by destroying it. And lastly, we must participate in the revolution to give back to the earth and reestablish it.
Vandana Shiva, known all around the world for environmentalism and social justice, writes "The Soil Vs. the Sensex" on how today's society devastates and destroys the "mother earth." Developing countries such as India, who depend on the land exponentially, are severely threatened by the degradation of the sacred earth. The rich and the privileged do not care, or forget, countries less fortunate depend solely on the earth and the nutrients it brings, meaning: "bio diversity and cultural diversity are at risk; our very future is threatened" (Shiva 579 p2). This diversity continues to diminish at a steady rate as we destroy the earth with waste and
pollution. In the next generations the cultures different from our own will be drastically reduced if not destroyed. This will eliminate many opportunities our children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren may have had to explore and learn about various societies or cultures. Consequently, America's intellect of the past may be reduced due to the inability of exploring and understanding other societies and cultures.
