The Kgatelopile Home Based Care Group is an organisation that is contributing positively to the Austrey community in the area of home based care.
Austrey village lies 17km northwest of Ganyesa local municipality in the Dr Ruth S. Momphati District of the North West province of South Africa. It is a small village that is home to about two thousand people. Many of the people in this village are close relatives making it a peaceful quiet village.
2.1 CHOICE OF THE PROJECT
There are many organisations that are working in Austrey village, among which are The Kgatelopile Home Based Care Group, The Batlamedi HBC, The Marere Agricultural Project and Lovelife just to name the major stakeholders in Austrey. As many households in South Africa are increasingly being affected by HIV and AIDS, there is growing demand for care and support. To a greater extent households are now faced with the prospect of coping with he needs of sick members, which includes daily living, treatment and general care. Austrey village like any other village in the North West province has not been spared either. Given the limited availability of formal assistance, inpatient programs, households now tend to rely upon non formal caregivers hence the need for home based care.
The choice of this project as the one contributing most positively to the people of Austrey can clearly be realised when one looks at the rationale behind the formation of this project and how it was established.
