Growing Pains Essay
Growing up for me is much like learning how to ride a bike for the first time. I remember getting my first bike for Christmas I was seven years old and in that day and age I was considered a late bloomer because majority of the children I knew were riding two wheeled bikes by the age of five. I did not care at all I was too excited just to have a bike and I could not wait for all the snow to melt so I could go outside and ride. Although, my first bike came with training wheels I did not even think about any protective gear. Life is much the same we think we know everything so we come across situations unprepared and unprotected. Once spring came and the snow was gone I got on my bike and peddled as fast as I could down the street; the feeling was exhilarating and it made me feel that I could do anything I wanted on my own. This act was much like having the supervision and confidence from a parent or older sibling that one needs to make the transitions in life more bearable.
After riding my bike with the training wheels on for several weeks I began to imagine how much faster I could ride without them, so one day I asked my sister to help me take them off. After the training wheels were off my bike took on a new appearance I felt that I had won the jackpot because I actually had two bikes in one. Now it was time to take that first step into independency. Before we proceeded my sister suggested that I wear a helmet, knee pads, and arm pads to protect myself when I fall off of the bike. As we grow in life we need the support from family and friends to help us cope with the disappointments and failures as we learn new skills in life so if indeed there is a stumble or fall we will have the knowledge of support and the confidence to get up and continue on.
