Bathsheba () of the Old Testament

Temptation is a force that can lead a person to do things that they normally would not attempt.   Too often do people put in a position of enticement only see what they want to.   They only see the positive repercussions, not the troubles.   When it comes to King David, of all of the troubles that he faced in his lifetime, his unpleasant incident of adultery with Bathsheba was the most severe.   The adulterous act itself was very serious, and while David is said to be the instigator of this event, the usually underestimated factor is Bathsheba.   Bathsheba was the daughter of Eliam (NRSV1 Chr 3:5) the son of Ahithophel.   She was also the wife of Uriah, a soldier in the army of King David of Israel.   (NRSV Matt 1:6)   The name Bathsheba is made up of two elements.   The first element is the Hebrew word “bat”, meaning “daughter” and the second element being “Sheba”, meaning “of abundance”.   She is found in various places of the Old Testament but she is mainly in Kgs 2:13-25 and 2 Sam 12:14-19.
