The BCS   or Playoff

I believe in the BCS system. When I think of college football, one word comes to mind, tradition. It’s one of the most exciting sports in the country, and people can’t get enough. Every weekend from September to January, countless fans flock to games or glue their anticipated eyes to TV sets. As teams battle on the gridiron, billions of dollars each year are generated in revenue. However, one question has divided fans, coaches, and players for a long time. How should a National Champion be crowned in the post season? “The Bowl Championship Series (BCS) was created to solve this problem in 1998”, explain ESPN journalist Stuart Scott. Still, the original bowl system has been around for nearly 100 years. There are six automatic bids to the BCS including conference champions from the ACC, Big East, Big 12, Big Ten, SEC and Pac-12. In addition, four at-large teams are picked through a complex series of computer rankings. These rankings are determined through multiple equations with multiple variables. Still, some people believe that instead of having computers decide the fate of teams, the teams should go head-to-head in playoffs, like the NFL. As exciting as this may seem, there is much more that needs to be considered when structuring NCAA football's postseason. It takes more than just a simple idea to alter an effective system, which is why the BCS is superior to a playoff structure.
The intensity of college football thrives because every game matters. A loss during any weekend could destroy a team's championship hopes. "BCS creates a playoff atmosphere throughout the season." (Alder 2.) No other sport can make the claim that one loss can ruin a team’s chance to play for a national title. This "every-game-matters" attitude that college football brings to the table would be diminished if a playoff system were in effect. No devoted fan of the game wants to watch the backups play in the final game of the season so the starters can avoid injury....
