Paul’s My Brave Face single is released.
My Brave Face This song was Paul’s first single released from his upcoming Flowers in the Dirt
album. Cowritten by
Paul and Elvis Costello, one critic calls it “brilliant pop song writing from 2 masters of the
form,” and it opens the album. Musicians included Paul’s new band, w/ Hamish Stuart on guitar,
Chris Whitten on drums, Robbie Mcintosh on lead guitar and saxes. At Elvis’ request, Paul
played his old Hofner bass from his Beatles days on the song. The title line is sung a capella in
Marvelous 3part harmony opening the song, w/ a med funkpop groove kicking in on the
Paul’s flowers in the Dirt album is released.
Recorded in 6 different sessions in London and LA, the album wouldn’t bre4ak the US top 9 but
#3 in UK. Hamish Stuart on guitar and bass, would follow, and some critics say this patchwork
album was Paul’s second best effort of the 80s.
RIngo and his AllStarr band rehearse in TX, w/ their first tour of America. At the show in NJ,
Bruce Springsteen makes a guest appearance singing several songs w/ Ringo.
