“They love this, they love the glitz and glamour” they say. As funny and disturbing like Toddlers and Tiaras can be. Today television has peppered with reality shows that feature young girls decked out in pricy gowns, full makeup and big hair. The reality program shows 5 year olds dancing around revealing two-piece costumes, dazzled with make up and teased hair. The costumes and the makeup teach these girls that their looks are what matters. As it seems nowadays, some of the girls are forced by their mothers to participate for the money.
An estimate of 250,000 children participate in child beauty pageants every year, and the number is only rising because of shows like Toddlers and Tiaras. The industry is now one of the largest growing businesses in America, and on average beauty pageants are earning over 5 billion dollars.The average cost of a pageant dress is $1,000 and some cost as much as $5,000 according to “Good Morning America”. Beauty pageants are very expensive and most parents use the money that could be spent on education or family vacations .For most pageants, child can begin participating basically as soon as they can sit up by themselves, so it is the parents, and most often the mothers who are responsible for the participation of girls in the competitions.The child pageant are very competitive, demanding and stressful, the children are placed under huge pressure to perform flawlessly.
Beauty pageants teach these little girls that all you need to succeed in life is beauty.
