On The Beach

On the beach is a story about different people point of view of what is going to happen to them when the radiation caused by a nuclear bomb is about to come. In the beginning, Peter Holmes, lieutenant commander of the Royal Australian Navy wakes up next to his beautiful wife Mary Holmes and his daughter of nine month. He has an appointment with the Navy Department after seven months of not doing anything. Peter’s mission is to be liaison officer of the U.S.S Scorpion with captain; Dwight Towers who is an American married with a woman name Sharon and has two children a boy Junior and a girl Helen. Their mission is to go on the North Hemisphere to see if there is any human left alive after the radiation attacked. Peter invites the captain, Dwight Towers, at his house for a party before they go on their mission. There Dwight Towers meets Moira Davidson whom is a young woman who likes to drink just to forget about what’s going to happen to the Southern Hemisphere. She drops out of university because of the radiation. She lives, helps her parents and is not married. Moira Davidson gets to know Dwight Towers and starts falling for him even though she realizes that Dwight Towers won’t accept the fact that his wife and children are dead. During the mission, Dwight, Peter and John Osborne a scientist who is also assign to help with the mission were talking about how did the radiation happened. They said that the radiation started because of a nuclear attack by Albania on Italy and then increased with the bombing of the United States and the United Kingdom by Egypt. Because the airplanes used in these attacks were obtained from the Soviet Union, the Soviets were mistakenly blamed, triggering a vengeful strike on the USSR by NATO. There is also an attack by the Soviets on the People's Republic of China, which may have been a response to a Chinese attack aimed at occupying Soviet industrial areas...
