Without capital punishment (the death penalty) our lives are less secure and crimes of violence increase. Capital punishment is essential to control violence in society. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Capital punishment is still a debatable topic, one that questioned our moral judgment and yet, it is still practiced in some parts of the world. In my personal view, crime will always be there regardless of capital punishment. In this essay, I will state some of the reasons why I disagree with such practice.
Firstly, it is a moral issue that posed a question as to who gives the right to take another man’s life. It is in my opinion that if we were to impose such laws, there should be a clear outcome as to what the law side is trying to achieve. I sincerely believe that capital punishment is equally a practice of murder and it will send a wrong message to the public that the law system is no difference than the crime committed.
Secondly, people should be allowed a second chance in life, anyone could be in the same situation and likely to commit such atrocities. Thus I sincerely believe that instead of imposing capital punishment as a means to control violence, instead we should focus on prevention crimes and rehabilitation. In my view, it might spark public chaos if such practice was to be installed as a first line of defense for any crime.
Thus to conclude my statement, capital punishment should be abolished simply because it does not serve any purpose in solving crimes nor will ever decrease the rate of crimes. Instead, it should be replaced with life imprisonment sentence to show to the public that law still respect life regardless of what the gravity of the situation was.
