Reasons for child abuse
Abuse has been a topic that has been discussed for generations and however much awareness there is, abuse exists even today. Examples of abuse can even be seen in the bible. For example, Mary Magdaline was stoned in front of every one , and the fact that Jesus was put to death in an abusive fashion in front of everyone, people took for granted the after effects it would have on children watching, it was the normal way of life even grown ups were beaten. Physical punishment was perceived as a normal way of bringing up children, we know of children as small as 5 and 6 years being smuggled out of their countries and sold to the Arabs to become camel jockeys. The kids are sold for as little as US$3 (Ron Gluckman). Hundreds more are kidnapped, often toddlers as young as 2 years. In some parts of India children are made to work at age 10 and contribute to the family income. This is abuse and it effects the children in some form or the other. Abuse effects an individual physically, mentally and emotionally.
According to the “National Child Abuse Statistics” almost five children die everyday due to child abuse, that’s more than three out of four under the age of 4. 90% of child sexual abuse victims know the abuser and 68% are abused by family members. About 30% of abused and neglected children will later abuse their own children. Statistics with criminal behavior show children who have experienced child abuse and neglect are 59% more likely to be arrested as juvenile, 28% more likely to be arrested as an adult, and 30% more likely to commit violent crime (National Child Abuse). These facts are frightening because these and children, who have done nothing wrong to deserve any of these punishments. Some reason’s for child abuse are usually brought about because the parents were abused as children, they are alcoholics or are involved in drugs.
