INTRODUCTION
What are the effects of war on children?
Children. War. Some words just don’t belong together. Ever wondered what war can do to the lives of innocent children involved? “Armed conflict destroys the basic necessities of life: schools, health care, adequate shelter, water and food.”(Smith par 7) This makes it very difficult for communities, involved in war, to provide children with an environment that houses healthy emotional and social development. (Smith par 7) War does not only affect children by removing the basic necessities of life, but children involved in war are almost always affected physically, economically, and psychologically.
PHYSICAL EFFECTS
What are the physical effects of war on children?
There are numerous effects that children face as a result of war.   For example, many children get sick during war and are not able to get treatment because doctors flee, hospital centers are destroyed.(Thomas par 6)   Even when children are not directly involved in combat, their health is compromised as a result of war.   Furthermore, many females face rape and/or sexual violence.   Sometimes girls become pregnant or are hurt in such a way that they are unable to have children in the future.(Thomas par 5)   The violence perpetrated on females during war’s chaos   have long lasting effects.   Clearly children who are involved directly in combat face physical effects.   These consequences include bombing, man on man combat and bullet wounds....
