Childhood Obesity and Parental Influence
Childhood obesity is a global epidemic that affects thousands of children and causes numerous diseases’ that could be prevented with proper parental care.   This research paper will reveal how the lack of parental care is the cause of obesity in children.   Studies have concluded that childhood obesity symptoms may be generated from the womb.   In addition, children with single parents’ are left unsupervised and consume large quantities of sugary drinks and snacks, which cause them to become overweight.   Children stemming from dual parental households’ are less apt to consume junk food and are taught proper nutrition habits by their parents’.   Lastly, the research paper discusses how government agencies and television media plan to aid parents’ and children in the prevention of childhood obesity.   Parental influence is the primary cause of childhood obesity, causing the child to make poor nutritional eating habits, due to lack of parental supervision, parental neglect, and parental interaction (Savage, Fisher, J, & Birch, 2007).
Longer working hours trigger the child to stay with a temporary guardian, causing an absence of parental control at meal times.   Meals with the parents’ are important for the child by introducing them to proper eating habits executed by the parents’.   A young child will emulate the eating habits of their parents’ and further develop proper nutrition and healthy portion sizes (Savage, Fisher, J, & Birch, 2007). The onset of childhood obesity has been traced back to the mothers’ womb.   According to The Journal of Law, Medicine & Ethics, the fetus can distinguish flavors of sweet, bitter, and salty from the reaction of the mother.   This distinction may cause an early craving for sweets in toddlers and eventually adolescents (Savage, Fisher, J, & Birch, 2007).
