I am doing my Chronic Diseases paper on Multiple Sclerosis. I pick this diseases because my mother past away from Multiple Sclerosis in 1996 and I have been doing resource on this diseases ever since 1996. I am proud of myself for doing this paper because I never really like talking about my mother’s death until recently. In this paper I will give a description of Multiple Sclerosis, also I will give risk factors of the disease. I will also give lifestyle choices you can make in your life to decrease your modifiable risk factors for this disease.   By the end of this paper I hope everyone will have a better understanding of Multiple Sclerosis and know the risk factors and ways for a person that does have M.S. to live they life.
            According to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Multiple Sclerosis is a chronic, often disabling disease that attacks the central nervous system (CNS), which is made up of the brain, spinal cord, and optic nerves. Symptoms may be mild, such as numbness in the limbs, or severe, such as paralysis or loss of vision. The progress severity and specific symptoms of MS are unpredictable and vary from one person to another. In the University of Phoenix Life Resource Center it states that “each case of multiple sclerosis (MS) displays one of several patterns of presentation and subsequent course. Most commonly, MS first manifests itself as a series of attacks followed by complete or partial remissions as symptoms mysteriously lessen, only to return later after a period of stability.” In addition, according to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), 20% of people with MS have a benign form of the disease in which symptoms show little or no progression after the initial attack; these patients remain fully functional.
