MY FAVORITE CITIES
If somebody asks me “What is your favorite city?” I will answer immediately that they are Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh. They are the two biggest cities in Viet Nam. Ho Chi Minh is the place where I was born and grew up, and Ha Noi is the place where I worked for 3 years. I have unforgettable memories about the local people, economic, and weather in both cities. I realize although both of them have many similarities, each city has its special features that make interesting differences between Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh.
If you visit Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh, the local people will make you feel like home by their hospitality. They are very nice, and friendly. For example, they always smile and say “hello” to you, and they also are pleased to help you. However, the residents in Ha Noi are very traditional. For instance, most of them live with family members in the same house. The husband is the breadwinner while the wife stays at home and takes care of children. The husband makes the final decisions about everything in the house. The wife has to follow and respects him. In contrast, the citizens in Ho Chi Minh are very open-minded. They live with their immediate family with only father, mother, and children. The wife and husband share of taking care children. Furthermore, the women work outside the home, and they are independence from their husbands.
On the other hand, the weather in Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh makes you surprise because both of them are tropical climate, but they have different weather. Hanoi city is in the north, so it has four seasons: spring, summer, autumn and winter. The average temperature in Hanoi is 68˚F; it is about near 92˚F in the summer and 55˚F in the winter. In contrast to Ha Noi, Ho Chi Minh is in the south, so it has only two seasons: dry and rainy. No month in Ho Chi Minh has an average high temperature of less than 89˚F.
