In maritime profession, it is a fact that trainings are vitally recognized in the performance of work routines and necessary responsibilities shouldered on board the vessel. As set by the Standards of Trainings, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW), different trainings are required in maritime institution to enforce and to equip the aspiring with the skill necessities in preparation for the real world- the world of seafaring. With that, cadets and trainees have to undergo rigid trainings that is professionally aligned in the standards set by STCW 1978, as amended.
Classifications of these trainings comprise the practical trainings, lecture trainings and the Computer Based Trainings. In this digital world, to enhance more the knowledge of the students, lectures are brought into higher level. Upgraded computer based trainings where applied and incurred in courses taken by cadets as part of their theoretical requirements.
Computer-based training, is a type of education in which the student learns by executing special training programs on a computer. CBT is especially effective for training people to use computer applications because CBT program can be integrated with the applications so that students can practice using the application as they learn.
The CBT, or shall we say, the Computer-based Training, prepares our cadets both BSMARÉ and BSMT to be well-equipped with the things that everyone needs to know what’s onboard ships, the operations specifically. This serves as a guide for the cadets to be well-prepared and can picture out, imagine what’s onboard ships, both international and domestic. CBT entails lots of courses that really exposes our future marine officers and engineers to the real seafaring profession. CBT, when taken seriously, can really contribute to the enhancement of the cadets’ undertakings onboard.
