CONFLICT RESOLUTION PROPOSAL
Conflict Resolution process between Boiteko PTY LTD and the City Coalition.
The conflict at hand is very complex as it is composed of many different elements that have led to the conflict such as culture. This is evident due to the fact that the coalition believes that the values of the youth need to be deeply rooted in their families and neighborhood rather than diluted by those of people who do not share the same religious and cultural beliefs.
Since the mayor and city clerk take no sides in the conflict and wish that an acceptable agreement may be reached that will benefit the community and bring about civic harmony. To achieve this an interest based approach would have to be adopted and integrative negotiation should be used with the hope of reaching a win win situation.
PRE NEGOTIATION – Week before meeting
Before dealing with the conflict certain measures should be undertaken to ensure that the meeting environment or atmosphere is set in a manner that will allow the conflict resolution process to run smoothly. The time and place of meeting should be one comfortable to both the disputants and neither one of the disputants should be put under pressure due to the selected time and venue. The disputants should be advised to fully prepare themselves to deal with the issue at hand honestly, positively and openly.
COMMENCEMENT OF MEETING (Facilitation) - 1 to 2 days depending on agenda
Meeting should start on a good note, doing this encourages parties to be willing to listen to each other and be willing to come to an agreement. A positive mood and environment should thus be set. Parties may be briefed on this before the beginning of the meeting. A facilitator should be appointed to oversee the proceedings.
