Therapeutics Cultural Assignment
When the topic of the Muslim culture comes up there a lot of preconceptions and also misconceptions about this particular people. The Muslim people are most likely one of the most prejudged cultures in the world and this is due mostly to the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Centre. When people think of Muslims they think they are violent, terrorists and/or extremists, however it is only a small group who cause stereotyping for the whole culture, “The Quran says: "Fight in the cause of God against those who fight you, but do not transgress limits. God does not love transgressors" (Quran 2:190)” (1), the Quran the central religious text of Muslims and considered almost rules for life.
There is no one language we can associate to this culture due to the vast Muslim population spreading over 185 countries totaling over 1.6 billion, almost 25% of the world population. Therefore there are many different languages spoken by the Muslim culture, however the first language of the Muslim culture and the language that their sacred Quran was written in is Arabic (2). With no one language being spoken it makes things very difficult as a paramedic to be able to help someone speaking in tongues other then English.
The religion of the Muslim culture is Islam. They follow the teachings of the Quran and their deity Allah. Islam is a monotheistic religion similar to that of Christianity in which they profess the existence of only one deity.
The family in the Muslim culture revolves around the male head of the household; he will make decisions for anyone living in his house. The immediate family are the primary caregivers, and in some situations the males are told medical information before it can be told to the females (3).
