Life after death is a common belief in all religions. The two places you are destined to go are either heaven or hell, and your course is based on your previous actions. People want to believe that there is immortality after they die. Near-death experiences make people believe that there is an afterlife.
Everyone at some point in time has a mentor that offers guidance in any way possible. In What Dreams May Come Chris finds a tracker to help him save Annie from hell. The tracker that Chris encounters is Albert, who was Chris’ professor that he respected very much. In life people need someone to help them expand their knowledge and understanding as well as provide guidance toward their desired results. This was shown when Chris desperately needed Albert’s experience and advice to guide him through hell. Afterlife is a struggle for everyone to conceive initially because it is an unfamiliar concept.
Dante states, “For you are my true master…” In Dante’s Inferno, Dante meets Virgil who stays with him throughout hell and helps him escape. Dante is unfamiliar with hell and is dependent on Virgil for survival. From our birth, through adolescents, we expect our parents to always be there to guide us in the right direction. No matter how old you are, you can always learn from the more experienced guardians in your life.
