Doctor David Suzuki is the one of the first people Canadians think of when discussing environmental issues, climate change, or the uses of green energy.   He is regularly near the top of the list when discussing Canada’s most influential Canadians (Dean 1).   David Suzuki is a world renowned scientist, an environmental activist and a broadcaster in Canada.   He has become popular through his radio and television programs that explained complex scientific issues that the average person would be able to understand. "There are very few in the scientific world who have David's gift for doing this, and there are still fewer who communicate with such directness"(Dean 1).   Through his broadcasts and research, David Suzuki has lead the way for Canadians and the world to commit to environmental and social change.
Dr. David Suzuki believes that his strong beliefs and hard work are due to his childhood experiences.   Suzuki was born in Vancouver, British Columbia in 1936.   In his early years as a child his father would often take him fishing.   This is when his love for the environment started(Bourne 1).   Suzuki’s grandparents moved to Canada after being driven out of Japan due to poverty.   Now, although Suzuki is from Japanese decent, he feels as though he should be a full Canadian.   With that said, Suzuki feels as though he is an outsider (Metamorphosis 64).   This is because during his upbringing the Canadian government issued the War Measures Act.   This act was against all Japanese decedents after the attack on Pearl Harbor.   His family was forced to move to an abandoned mining community deep in the Rocky Mountains.   When the war finished the Suzuki family moved to southern Ontario to work in farming fields (Suzuki, Personal Journey Through Genetics and Civil Rights 1).   When working in Ontario he learned that having a good education and a strong work ethic was the only way to get out of poverty, “I developed a compulsive need to excel at whatever I did to prove my work as...
