We advance our personal, cultural, historical, social knowledge and values when we explore the emotional, creative, intellectual, physical and spiritual discoveries everyday life brings. The impact of these discoveries can be far-reaching and transformative for the individual and for the broader society. The short story ‘Click’ by Judith Stamper, looks at the way the media shapes our attitudes and perspectives on the world by using simplifies and sanitised context. Ivan O’Mahoney’s television documentary series ‘Go Back to Where You Came From’ immerses its participants and responders within the debate surrounding refugees and asylum seekers with the objective of making us question our opinions and prejudices. The social experiment displays physical, intellectual and emotional discoveries and discovering that provide the participants with new understandings and renewed perceptions. ‘Mirror‘ by Jeannie Baker is a picture book that enables us to discover that while there are cultural, racial and religious differences between people, they share similar values and needs.
