For my two chosen related texts I have chosen an image and a movie. The image is called “The Historic Wayfarer” by Tim Storrier and the movie “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” originally by Stephen Chbosky’s novel. And the main text is “Away” the script by Michael Gow.
Discovery is a part of life. It happens every day, every week and year. When individuals are young they discover emotional, creative, physical, spiritual and intellectual factors in life. And as time goes by, and the older people get, the more intricate and even confusing the discoveries are. Growth is a large part of discovery and the first related text I have “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” the moral of the storyline is exactly this. Charlie grows and discovers many things about his life and mental state. For example, at the end when he becomes alone due to his friends leaving, his mind is not occupied and he digs further into his memories and ends up discovering the truth about his past. He then needs counselling in which he had to travel and leave out of his ordinary life to be able to see things clearer.
Comparing Away to Perks of Being a Wallflower, Discovery has different aspects and different ways to be made. For example, in Away, the discoveries are unveiled when they travel, things became clear because they leave from the ordinary and must be faced with the reality, for example Tom and his sickness, his parents must then accept this, as well as Tom.
Travel is a popular way of discovery. It enables the discoverer to see things from a fresh perspective. For them to leave from their own chaos and confusion and to look at it all another way. In all three of these texts, this is a reoccurring pattern. The Histrionic Wayfarer is wearing a safari outfit which implies he is somewhere else, and bringing all of his belongings somewhere else could be interpreted as he is moving away from his old life. In Away, at the end they all ended up going on a holiday to get away from their normal lives...
