Why Documentation is Important
When it comes to research for a paper, where you find your material is very important. These places where you find information on the subject that you want to know more about are called resources. So, when you take information, pictures or even quotes you should give them the credit. This is considered documenting your work. The documentation style use can vary and depends on what your school or teacher may want. It is how you cite your sources and list the references you used throughout your essay. (Unknown, 2012) There are two popular documentation styles. The first is APA, which stands for American Psychological Association and the other is MLA. MLA stands for Modern Language Association.
When it comes to college writing and APA style there are a few rules that need be applied. These rules are there to help you write an accurate and proper paper. It gives the guidelines that you must for you won’t plagiarize your or another person’s work. The things your paper should include are as follows; a title page, headers, in –text citations and a reverence page. The paper should be typed in Times New Roman, 12 point font and doubled space. When you are formatting your header it should include a shorten version of the title of your paper in all caps, which should be on the left and the then the page number to the right. In the center is the full title of your paper, then your name and last the name of your school. When it comes to the in text citations, it should be at the end of what you are paraphrasing or quoting. It will be in parentheses and include the author and date that the source was written or published. The reference page is a complete list of all your sources and should be listed in alphabetical order. It will be the last page of the paper.
