Is Education Being Fulfilled at the Mount?
“Children have to be educated, but they have also to be left to educate themselves.” This quote by Ernest Dimnet epitomizes what effect a good education has on people, but also society. It can easily be interpreted as saying classroom education is essential to growth, but experience plays an equally important role in the development of, in this case, children. Mount Saint Mary’s University is dedicated to graduating young men and women who can assimilate themselves into society successfully. This is evident in the core curriculum assigned, availability of courses offered at the Mount, and other opportunities available to the students who attend the university.
Being fully and successfully assimilated into society entails that one is in a place where they are given full opportunity to access the luxuries of the society. One factor that determines a person’s assimilation into a successful society is their occupation. Most people believe that having a good job will enable them to have the things they truly desire. In essence, they will be able to achieve their dreams and fulfill their hearts desires. It is believed that in order to have the greatest chance at accomplishing your greatest goals, one must go above and beyond those who may have the same or similar goals as they do. In order to do this, it is highly recommended that a college education be attained even though it is not required.
The purpose of a college education is to illuminate the minds of individuals to enable them to have knowledge on things they might not necessarily have if they did not attend college. An education is only worthwhile if it does this. There are many things that complete a person’s life. For example, some things include a spouse/family, religion (if that will play a role in that person’s life), and leisure. A college education is supposed to equip one with the capacity to enjoy all...
