The play started to fall when Desdemona was speaking on behalf of Cassio and Othello started to become suspicious of his wife. Othello’s mood will result in disliking her. After Emilia and Desdemona took off, Othello said “Excellent wretch! Perdition catch my soul But I do love thee! And when I love thee not, Chaos is come again.” (III, iii, 90-92). Othello expressed his love with Desdemona when she was absent. This could be that Othello is in love with Desdemona’s image than Desdemona herself.
When Iago and Othello are by themselves, Iago started to say that Desdemona was having an affair with Cassio but there was little evidence that they are together. This is where the problem is rising up. Iago’s plan was to make Othello doubt and jealous about Desdemona. What Iago reported to Othello injected into him like a virus. He might kill her for cheating.
As soon as Iago took off, Othello asked himself why he married. He said Iago knows more than himself. What he said was “Why did I married? I’m sure this good and honest man sees and knows more, much more, than he’s telling me.” (III, iii, 242-243). Othello fell into Iago’s trap and he did it without thinking.
Othello was pretending he had a headache and Desdemona was trying to help him by putting the handkerchief he gave her onto his head but he pushed it away and it fell. Emilia took the handkerchief right after Desdemona and Othello wasn’t there. Iago found the handkerchief Desdemona dropped in Emilia’s hand and told her to give it to him. Emilia doesn’t know why Iago needed it so badly but Iago told her to give it to him. Iago is going to plant it in Cassio’s bedroom so that he could prove to Othello that Desdemona had cheated him. The audience know this when Iago mentioned
“I will in Cassio’s lodging lose this napkin/ And let him find it. Trifles light as air/ Are to the jealous confirmations strong/ As proofs of holy writ. This may do something. The Moor already changes with my poison: Dangerous...
