ICT has been influenced by many factors such as cultural, economic, environmental, ethical, legal and social. Different factors can influence the way ICT is used in certain situations. ICT influences the way we interact and communicate.
The use of ICT is influenced by cultural factors such as laws, arts, habits, morals, knowledge, beliefs and customs. ICT has developed over the years and this has caused great changes in culture, for instance, since culture has changed, more people tend to use the internet more rather than watching television. Also, people are more likely to text each other rather than calling because it’s fast and simple. Culture has developed along with ICT, for instance in the past many people would have gone out and purchased a CD to listen to a particular artist, however now, downloading is available, so instead of going out, you can stay at home and download music from i-tunes. I-tunes are also useful because if the user did not want to purchase the entire CD, they could just select certain tracks that they liked. Additionally, over the years cultural material has changed, for instance images, artwork, music, fashion are available on mass such as YouTube, MySpace, etc. Users go online to view paintings instead of physically going to workshops/museums/galleries. This is advantageous to the artist because they are able to promote themselves in a different way. Additionally, sites such as Twitter, Facebook, and Blogger has a massive impact on us because these online communities allow new friendships to develop, friends are able to stay in touch via online social networking sites instead of actually going out and meeting them.
