Failure: a Step Toward Success
During the course of life, a person faces experiences and challenges that may be positive or negative. Obstacles and difficulties are bound to come in the way of success. Success is the result of hard work, firm determination and dedication. When a person has to deal with a mistake done in the attempt of success, people normally tend to define it as a failure. However, what is actually a failure? According to a dictionary is “an act or instance of failing or proving unsuccessful,” but I disagree with it because failures are not random events; we make them and we cause them. This means we can learn ways to avoid them in the future and become more aware of our mistakes. We don’t have to be afraid of failing because failure can lead to success; it is only an outcome of a cause, and it is something that has to do just with our choices.
Excellence is often achieved through mistakes; every action has a reaction and a consequence. Often times when we get a result that we didn’t desire, we tend to indulge in self-pity, taking the “poor me” attitude, blaming the fate or bad luck. Here is when a person should pick up himself and keep on trying again and again. A man who has not tasted failure doesn’t know of success. Most great men achieved success only after a long battle with failures. They learned from their failures. The number one basketball player of all time, Michael Jordan, when interviewed about failure said: “I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that’s why I succeed.” Like he said he failed many times in public way, but nevertheless he kept going to improve himself and be successful.
