Allowing Gay Marriage
There is so much news and attention in the media on a lot of different issues that are happening in our society. One of these issues that are most talked about is gay marriage. The big question with this issue is, should gay marriage be allowed. On this subject there has been a lot of talk. Some good, and some bad. This issue alone has received a whole lot of attention and has been talked about for the past several years. When it comes to homosexuals and if they should be allowed to marry, I believe yes that they should be allowed to marry. There is two sides to this issue of course, just like any subject that is debated about. Either people are for it and against it. I am one of those people that is for allowing gay people to marry and I’m going to give my reasons why in this paper.
One of my biggest reasons for allowing gay marriage is, who are we as people to have power over someone else’s life as far as who they want to spend the rest of their life with?   Who are we to say who a person can and can’t marry. All people should have the same rights just like opposite sex couples have. We are all human. I don’t see why the people who are straight and against gay marriage should have any say so in allowing gay marriage. Another reason gay marriage should be ok is because according to the U.S. Constitution, gay marriage is protected by liberty and equality. In 1974, there was a case Cleveland Board of Education v. LaFleur. This situation basically resulted into saying that “freedom of personal choices in matters of marriage and family life is one of the liberties protected by the Due Process Clause.” In a more recent situation there was a U.S. District Attorney in the state of California who had written that banning gay marriage was unconstitutional under both the Due Process and Equal Protection Clauses.
