My essay is about globalisation and whether I agree or disagree with it. I will be exploring the subject and reaching a conclusion about what I think. Globalisation is when companies, ideas and lifestyles spread all over the world and a couple of examples of Trans National Corporations (TNC) are Nike, Adidas, Samsung, UGGs, Google and apple.
When we first started the topic of globalisation in geography I was very much for globalisation and thought it was good for the economy. I think it is good because the companies produce all the things that we love to wear and use in our free time without even thinking. Some TNCs give us our daily essentials such as Wal-Mart for food or BP for oil and petrol.
These companies are also good because to get the products made they must build lots of factories and employ thousands of people. These factories are often in the poorer countries of the world. This gives the people living there a chance to get a job and make some money to feed themselves and their families. Money that they would most certainly not have if it was not for those big chain companies setting up factories all over the world. They can also help to exploit a countries resource which can benefit the whole country and all of the people living there.
As we looked further into the topic my opinion started to change, so I was then undecided whether TNCs were a good thing or a bad thing. My opinion started to change when we saw a slide show about the conditions and hours that people work in the factories. I also saw in the video how athletes like Tiger Woods, Serena Williams and Rafael Nadal are paid millions of pounds to simply wear a Nike hat or have a Nike t-shirt.
The big factories may seem like a good idea to the boss of a big chain company sitting in his very posh office in America. He may be thinking that it would be a great idea to put a massive factory in Ghana or in a less developed country. He would think it would not only be good for...
