THE EFFECTS OF GREEN HOUSE ON GLOBAL WARMING
For over 100 hundred years now, scientists and environmental specialists have studied, ascertained, and concluded that global warming and greenhouse gases indeed exist (Judd). Since its inception, the subject of global warming not to mention the greenhouse effect, has always elicited a great deal of concern from scientists and individual citizens alike, who fear that the world is getting way much hotter at a very alarming rate. Perhaps it is important that before we further continue along this line, we first and foremost define what the terms global warming and the greenhouse effect mean. Global warming refers to the temperature rise on earth, occasioned by the existence of excess heat or radiation in the atmospheric surface of the earth. The greenhouse effect on the other hand refers to the trapping of the sun’s light and heat in the earth’s atmosphere resulting in the warming of the earth’s surface (Schneider, 13).
Since we have effectively defined the two terminologies which will constantly be used in this paper, it is probably best that we analyze in a more detailed and progressive manner, what causes either of the two to occur. It is appropriate to state that the greenhouse effect is indeed the culprit responsible for what we now know and understand as global warming. When talking of the greenhouse effect, reference is usually made to some of the gases which are classified as greenhouse gases.
They include; Water vapor (H20), Carbon Dioxide (CO2), Methane (CH4), Nitrous Oxide (N2O), and Ozone (O3) (Enzler, 2011). It is indeed of importance to note that while the greenhouse effect is partly responsible for global warming, without it, the earth would be way much cooler, precisely 18 (Columbia University).
