GOAL STATEMENT: WALDEN UNIVERSITY
VINCENT MBAYITU AMADIOHA: PHD PUBLIC HEALTH, WITH SPECIALIZATION; COMMUNITY HEALTH EDUCATION’
Start Date: 3/05/2012
Back ground /Objective:
I am the only member of a large family to have earned a university degree, first in my village, population of over 3,000 people to ever travel abroad to study for a degree program of any sort, and by the time I left my village to study abroad in United States in 1980, we were only three high school graduates. But the most exciting news thereafter is that soon I left my village in Nigeria, there come an exodus from illiteracy to the pursuit of knowledge, because many families were elated and challenged of the new development in our community and felt deeply that “Mbayitu Amadioha” can never be a lone ranger. They were right. And from 1980 to my return home in 1986 my village was buzzing with young men and women of hope and aspiration to the pursuit of knowledge. I was happy to notice how my village has evolved from infinitesimal number to 75% of the youth earning a high school diploma, and about 30% in pursuit of college degree from various universities home and abroad, and in different fields of academic pursuits.
I am seen as a catalyst that set most family ablaze to guide their children to the pursuit of knowledge, young men and women full of vision and able to wield a knife of hope and good life. I am welcomed home on each of my visit as a model of hope and aspiration to sustaining future and hopes of our community to posterity. I am very humbled and flabbergasted by such grace and attributions, but I am hopeful that given the opportunity to pursuing my doctorate degree may create another wiggle room that may perhaps affect another child’s life in a positive fashion. In other words, there could be no better reason why I should pursue a doctorate degree in public health with specialization in Community health education, another opportunity to share my knowledge with my community....
