The main character in this story is a smart, sophisticated young woman who attends college.
She decides to replace herself with a mannequin at the Shandar Cloth Store. At first people didn’t notice what she had done but later, some people started to notice and admire her. She got compliments from a peasant, two college girls and two boys. Everyone thought she looked very beautiful and lifelike.
All these compliments that she was getting made her feel very happy. She had not been looked at so appreciatively before. She felt special and confident about herself.
She stood still in the pose of a mannequin and waited for more people to come. A police officer came by stared at her suspiciously, he would stand and watch her and then leave and come back and stare at her again. Finally he left and she was still standing in the pose of a mannequin.
She saw a young man who was looking at her with admiration. He smiled at her and she smiled back. Pretending to be the store attendant she took the dummy and tried to install it. The young man was still looking at her and just to see if he was looking at her or the dummy she looked at him from the corner of her eye and his eyes were glued onto her.
Quickly, she opened the door and went out, she felt supremely confident. One last time, she looked back and the man was still looking at her. She turned down another street.
I think that her character is like most people in real life because, some people in the “real” world don’t think of themself as beautiful and have no self-confidence until people compliment them and tell them they’re beautiful. I also think that from now this girl will have a lot of confidence in herself.
