Impediments to the Growth of Philippine Political Thought
Every man has a right to utter what he thinks to be the truth, and every man has a right to knock him down for it. No matter how we try to be developed, there are still obstructions that block our way to prosper specifically in the development of our own political thought due to the fact that we rooted in a kind of life that we’re dominated by series of colonizers because of the notion that they’re superior and the eastern part of the globe is inferior in nature. As time passes by, the intensity of our being nationalistic and patriotic has become so unclear and it continuously degrades due to some factors that eventually affect our way of thinking every now and then.
One of the impediments that block the possible utmost growth of our political thought is the idea that our own society itself is analyzed within the context or the foreign concepts of the Westerners as Justice Rasul quoted. Even though there are several attempts or let’s say Filipino authors who made their contributions in pursuing the idea that Filipino really has its identity that could be found by having a thorough study of history integrated with our own culture as Samuel Tan claimed for instance, we can’t still eradicate the fact that their influences contributed to the demise and deterioration of some part of our identity or in other words there’s the presence of distortion. By that, there’s a tendency to act on the basis of premises and assumptions that may lead to certain prejudices and biases. There we could see the role of the Westerners in shaping our political thought. We can’t deplete the fact that there contributions also gave positive impact on us not only negative ones but the idea that it hampers the path toward the development of truly Filipino political thought really matters.
