Baby Names and the Meaning Behind Them
Names are something that everyone or everything has; everything has a classification on earth.   Webster says that name is a word or a set of words by which a person, animal, place or thing is known, addressed or referred to.   Names are identification by which a person can relate or identify themselves.   They are given to individuals at birth by parents, relatives or someone of importance. H. Edward Deluzain said that “Names are a part of every culture and that they are of enormous importance both to the people who receive names and to the societies that gives them” (Deluzain, 1996). In the Biblical era, names were given to individual because of the meaning and if a name was change it was because there was a change in status.   Throughout the Bible, people are given names at birth to reflect something of significance or describe the course of their lives.   In other cultures, names are derived from family trees, events that took place during the pregnancy and some name are based off the month in which a child was born and the gender of the child.   “The names parents choose for their children also reflect the relationship between name and identity that the symbolic contract seals” (Deluzain, 1996).   By a person’s name: heritage, creditability, legends and popularity is formed.   Also by someone’s name, a person can identity them as “nobodies”.  
In the movie “Freakonimcs” there was a section dedicated strictly to the names of people.   In this section, the director stated that “Everything we do make a difference in children’s lives, and that the future lays in the hand of a name”(Freakonimcs, 2010).   Also in the movie, it talks about the difference between “white” names and “black” names and how these names affect children throughout the course of their lives.   A name holds a valuable meaning in the job market, the way other’s perceive you and also when applying to school and other different types of social events.   I thought that...
