Human Resources Management:
The purpose of Human Resource Management (HRM) is to facilitate the most effective use of the people (employees) to achieve organizational and personal goals (Ivanich, 2020, p. 597). HRM is comprised of many different aspects. For our purposes, we discuss just six of them. These complex and multi-faceted various areas must all work together effectively in order to successfully manage human resources within a company. It is quite interesting to note that the purpose of each area is to work together with all other HRM areas to effectively use employees to the best advantage for the employer as well as employees; one such area is EEO and Affirmative action.
In 1964 The Civil Rights Act, Title VII gave the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) limited powers to resolve charges of discrimination, and to interpret the meaning of Title VII. In 1972, congress gave the EEOC the power to sue employers in federal courts (Ivanich, 2010, pg. 595). With this power the EEOC was given the authority necessary to right the wrongs of the past through litigation. Nowadays, EEO and Affirmative Action laws work together to assure that all employees regardless of race creed, color, religion, or disability have equal opportunity to employment. In fact, Affirmative Action takes it a step further. Through preferential treatment, Affirmative Action seeks to assure opportunity to groups that have been previously discriminated against. Affirmative Action means positive steps taken to increase the representation of women and minorities in areas of employment, education, and business from which they have been historically excluded.
