P5 – interview 5 personnel about their roles and responsibilities in relation to infection prevention and control.
Whilst on placement I interviewed 5 people about each role and responsibility their job role undertook in relation to infection prevention and control.
First person I interviewed was a manager at a residential home, the manager talked about the washing of hands. The manager gave to me so I could read a list of instructions in which she had to go through with each individual member of the team. The list was:
The manager must ensure that there are the correct resources available in order to carry out correct hand hygiene practice in which can be available at all times.
The manager must review incidents that occur in which relate to hand hygiene and ensure that remedial action is taken when necessary, this is to ensure that the incidents in which take place don’t happen again and something is put in place to stop it happening.
They have a responsibility to ensure that local risk assessments relate to the elements of hand hygiene and are carried out again when necessary.
They have a responsibility to ensure that all staff attend a yearly training on the correct hand hygiene, this is too make sure that staff all know the new rules and regulations for the correct hand hygiene, the manager stressed that if she didn’t explain too the care workers about the hand hygiene and they were doing it incorrect and there was an inspection that the home could be warned. Infection control is seemed to be one of the major things.
They must also make sure that all hand hygiene products are stored appropriately, she explained this in more detail and said it is very similar to COSHH as the products need to be out of sight of residents unless in the bathrooms and they need to be locked away in places in which are deemed appropriate, such as the right temperature.
