We are individuals so it only makes sense that we all develop differently and learn in different ways. Our development helps us to learn, remember, and receive information. There is a theoretical perspective with focus on ways that people process information, known as the Information Processing Theory. The Information Processing Theory has five working components that include sensation, perception, sensory register, working memory, and long-term memory.
    Each of these components provides something different. The first component, sensation, is the physiological detection of stimuli in the environment, or the use of the five human senses that included touch, taste, hear, see, and smell. The next component, perception, is the cognitive interpretation of the stimuli, or how the person processes and translates the information from the senses. For example, when you smell something foul you will likely respond by cringing or trying to wave the smell away because it was processed as a bad smell. The third component of the Information Processing Theory is sensory register. The sensory register is the component that retains information that is not analyzed for a short period of time. The sensory register deals with information from the five senses. The next component is the working memory. Working memory deals with new information that is being analyzed but is not remembered for long periods of time; this is also known as short term memory.   The last component is long-term memory. Long-term memory is the part of memory that retains information and skills for a long period of time.
      The brain has so much information that it receives throughout the years of life; so there has to be a way to regulate and process all that information.
