TRULY TRANSCENDING HORIZONS
As the delegation of 10 led by their faculty advisor from NMIMS MPSTME boarded their flights from Mumbai to Vancouver, the excitement was palpable; however, they couldn’t have imagined the experience to participate at the 21st Harvard World Model UN conference to be as fulfilling and rewarding.
The World Model United Nations is an annual traveling Model United Nations conference for college students run by Harvard undergraduates and a team from a local university from the host city. Dubbed the "Olympics of Model UN" , WorldMUN moves to a new international city each year having being held in the Netherlands, Mexico, Switzerland, China, United Kingdom, Egypt and so on. It attracts over 2,200 college and graduate students from more than 65 countries, making it the most diverse university conference in the world
The delegation was greeted by the host university, The University of British Columbia’s volunteers at the Vancouver airport who guided them across the city. The chilly winds and freezing cold could not deter the delegation, blanketed by the warmth the city and its people emanated. The very next day marked the beginning of the conference with a grand opening ceremony reverberating with the message from Ban Ki-moon to all the WorldMUN delegates.
The delegation of NMIMS representing Yemen in various committees was led by the faculty advisor Mr Nikhil Gala, Model UN Secretary Mr Bhavik Muni and the Head Delegate Ms Gursmeep Hundal. The other delegates included Ms Ankita Mundhra, Mr Arjit Johri, Mr Arjun Kaushik, Ms Charul Chandra,Mr Chinmay Kulkarni, Mr Farhad Malegam, Mr Ishan Gosar and Ms Sally Peter.
As the conference began, the delegates actively participated in their committee sessions, making their voices heard and solutions implemented, by no means an easy task to accomplish at a conference with over 2200 participants.
