Is Abortion Wrong?
Abortion is one of the most controversial subjects in today’s society. Should it be legal? Is it morally right? Are we playing God? Is it murder? These are the questions constantly asked when debating about this subject. Partial Birth Abortion is, in my opinion, the most gruesome, horrible form of abortion. The murder of an unborn child, for the mother’s gain is wrong.
In the United States, it is legal for a woman to have an abortion up to the day of birth in all states. Since abortion was legalized in 1973, approximately 1,500,000 babies have been aborted each year. One out of six women in this country have had abortions. Many times, they were not told about the procedure or the risks involved (Heritage House). Also doctors fail to tell them of the development of their unborn baby. There are many types of abortion out there. Partial Birth Abortion is a form of abortion usually performed during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy. It’s goal is to deliver a fetus that is not alive and incapable of surviving outside the womb.
Partial Birth Abortion, or PBA, is a method of aborting a pregnancy in which the baby is partially delivered through the birth canal, the doctor leaves the neck and head in the mother’s womb and proceeds to stab scissors in the back of the baby’s neck just under the skull. He then uses the scissors to enlarge the hole. After, he uses a medical vacuum to suction out the baby’s brains which causes the baby’s skull to cave in on itself making it easy to pull the head out. This type of abortion is very controversial. Some people who are for abortion say that this form is only used in severe cases. Ron Fitzsimmons, the executive director of the National Coalition of Abortion Providers admitted on ABC’s “Nightline” (11/95) that he had lied when he asserted the procedure was used rarely and only on women whose lives were in danger.
