Health disparities are the inequalities that exist when a member of certain population group do not benefit from the same health status as other groups. Health disparities can usually be identified along racial and ethnic lines, indication that African American, Hispanics, Asian American and Native American have different disease and survival rates from other population. Such disparities however can also extend beyond race to include areas such as access to health care, socioeconomic status, gender and biological or behavioral factors.
The population that suffers from health disparities and I am interested in it is Illegal immigrants and I have know people who went through this kind of process. Illegal immigrants face a lot of health disparities problems due to numerous factors such as; lack of diversity in health care providers, lack of physician in rural areas, poverty and lack of insurance and unequal treatment.
Firstly, illegal immigrant suffer from health disparities due to the fact that they are not officially recognized in the country and are officially not suppose to be in the country in the first place, therefore they do not have the necessary paper work to access our health care system and attain the available health benefits in the country. People sneak into the country and therefore find it hard to get health care service, also, immigrants are suppose to officially leave in this country for certain amount of years before they can officially access our medical services so apparently an illegal immigrant has no sort of health care service. For example; an illegal immigrant will not have a social security number to buy of apply for health insurance, unlike other countries where health care is free for everyone, regardless of where you are from nor your country of origin.
