Sarkuysan: the company overview:
Sarkuysan is a leading copper industry in Turkey. It was established with its 600 employees. Sarkuysan, being only Turkish joint stock company, it shares are traded publicly on the Istanbul Stock Exchange. Sarkuysan uses three different copper production technologies: Outokumpu, Southwire and Cortirod Continious Casting. In 2004, there was around 200,000 tons of production capacity; it sales volume at around 110,000 tons leading to a yearly export sales revenue of US$ 216 million. The customers of Sarkuysan range from domestic customers to Europe and USA customers. 60 percent of European-produced automobile uses the copper products of Sarkuysan.

From an organisational perspective, according to Ikujiro Nonaka (1994), the organisational knowledge is formed through interaction between technologies, techniques and people in the organisation. Knowledge management is rooted in human experience and social context. Although managing knowledge mangement requires the information technology but more important is people in the organisation. Sarkuysan’s culture includes the values, beliefs, norms and expectation widely held. Therefore, the success that the company has achieved needs to be linked with the communication of the values of the culture to its employees.
