The life cycle beings the same for everybody, it begins as a newborn baby. Newborns have different nutritional needs compared to adults. The nutritional needs for a baby are iron, calcium, zinc, vitamins A, D, E, and K, and vitamin C and B. Iron is essential for newborns because it is critical for brain development. A common food source that babies obtain iron from is their mother's breast milk. Calcium is also a need for babies. Calcium help build strong bones and also help prevent bone fractures for when children start doing physical activities. Milk and yogurts are common sources of calcium for infants. Infants growing up have a weak immune system. Zinc is the answer to their weak immune system because zinc maintains immune functions and cell growth and repair. Infants also need Vitamin A, D, E, and K. Vitamin A promotes vision and healthy skin, vitamin D increases calcium absorption, E helps with nervous system development and K helps with blood clotting. Vitamins C and B are also nutrients that infants need because vitamin C improves iron absorption meanwhile vitamin B enhances the immune system and helps with infant's metabolism.
As babies get older their nutrients change. Once a child reaches adolescent they still need the same healthy foods as adults eat but they just need more vitamins and minerals for their body to grow. Whole grains, fresh fruits, vegetables, calcium and proteins are commonly what kids need. Vegetables needs are 3-5 servings, 2-4 servings for fruits, 6-11 servings per day for whole grains, 2-3 of protein, and 2-3 cups of dairy products.
As a teenager, your nutritional needs change. Teens need protein, carbohydrates, and fats in their food. All of these are used as the body's energy source. Protein is a not a big concern for teenagers because sources of protein are very easy to find.
