Blood lay everywhere in his chamber, there was no sign of life, as the castle remained quiet, while the recent death continued to go un-noticed. The tragedy of Macbeth, written by William Shakespeare, is considered one of the most violent and darker plays written. The passage taken from Act 2 Scene 3 Lines 55-115, starts within the court in the castle where Macbeth asks Macduff where King Duncan is.   Macduff witnessing firsthand the murdered Duncan lying on his bed, shocks him as he quickly informs the news to the many generals and noblemen of Scotland. Not long after, suspicions starts to rise, as well as the growing fear of the next victim. Through the usage of character, motif, and diction, these devices greatly emphasize the significant influence of powers ability to corrupt characters through the passage.  

Macbeth takes an important role by the usage of characterization to establish his character’s beliefs and values, which later affect the play. Driven by the lust of power and greed, Macbeth, agrees into killing Duncan, and disguising their deed, with continues lies, “   O, yet I do repent me of my fury/that I did kill them,” (lines 102-103). In reality Macbeth, murdered Duncan himself, as he was blinded by the urge to claim the throne, as well as the continues pressure set on him by his wife. Smartly enough, Macbeth covers his deed by playing a role, where he was driven by fury of Duncan’s murder, which resorted him into killing the chamberlain’s guards. The constant lies and the acting played by both Macbeth and his wife, highlights the grave and dark atmosphere set for this tragic play. The characterization of Macbeth’s character, helps emphasize   the strong effect powers has to an individuals values and morals. Power remains a significant role in this tragedy, as most acts and scenes revolve around the lust of power. And through the greediness of authority and supremacy, manipulation comes hand in hand, as Macbeth’s character portrays the negative...
