Following Military Orders That May Be Unethical

      In the military, there are so many things that people are against but are sworn to do no matter the problem they may have against it. I figured this topic would be very interesting for me to learn more about the people I serve with every day as get an insight of their views and why they feel the way they do. I’m a four year active duty member of United States Air Force I see these situations time and time again. Whether its religion, war, or even the structure of the military; many troops have their own beliefs about the things that they are being asked to do with integrity and place the mission before themselves. I can recall being at a change of command ceremony July of this year, and during these ceremonies we ask that everyone bow their head in prayer to bless the ceremony and our new commander. A fellow Airman who had different religious beliefs didn’t bow his head and pray with everyone else because of his different views. Another thing I noticed was throughout the ceremony God was mentioned a lot and it seemed this Airman’s attitude was not a polite one. The military does stress freedom of religion but yet at these ceremonies we only acknowledge one religion. My question is does this Airman have a right to be upset? Should the military look at changing these ceremonies itinerary? How about the other member who believe that killing in war is still against their religious belief, is it wrong for them to still be forced to war? Should they be excused from war for these reasons? In this paper, I will discuss my views as well as collect thoughts of my fellow service members on what they think.
      Although my belief is just one of millions I do know that these people have an ethical belief that hinders a lot of things taught to us in the military.
