Despite the changing lifestyles and ever-increasing personal mobility that characterize modern society, the family remains the central element of contemporary life. Families offer companionship, security, and a measure of protection against an often uncaring world. However the structural idea of a family has greatly changed since World War 2. Family forms & structures have greatly diversized since 1949 how are some families still co-existing under the branch of the traditional Patriachial and still enjoying life.
The traditional family was originally a heterosexual couple who get together in there early years, move away , have children and both the man and the women have separate roles. The mother was seen as the “primary caregiver” & the man was seen as the “ primary breadwinner” Both play a significant roles in a family . The traditional family consisted of ; Mother , Father, two kids ,house and pets. Some families would have extended family members living with them they would either have no relatives other than that immediate members. The ideailogy of the family is changing quite quickly as we speak. Some examples of these varying family structures are; single- parents, gay’s and lesbians , women in the work field
Marriage rates are dropping drastically as cohabilitation is on the rise. Common-law relationships are spiking will fertility rates continue to drop. It is easier to get a divorce today then it was in the past. With work being readily available for mothers, more are in the work field, particularly working 2 jobs , raising a family and helping out collecting extra pocket change here and there. Raising a family isn’t cheap. Socio-economic changes are on the rise
