Nail Salon Health Hazards
Many females today visit a variety of different nail salons to get a pedicure, manicure, or acrylic nails. This has evolved to become a major trend all around the world. Some nail salons have even made their way into our malls. These places have created a relaxing setting with recliner type chairs, whirlpool foot spas, and massages during your appointment. Prices are pretty descent but what they don’t put in their advertisements are the potential hazards and risks that may come along with it.
Nail salons use a variety of different hazardous chemicals that can potentially cause diseases such as cancer, respiratory disease, disorders or the nervous and reproductive system, and skin damage. These chemicals are not your everyday chemicals; they are industrial strength chemicals that require regulations and proper education for their use.
People who visit nail salons regularly or even work in a nail salon, can be at risk of developing a lung disease from inhaling all the chemicals around them. Getting these pedicures or manicures can also put you at risk for developing skin allergies, either from the glues or some of the chemicals.
Not only can people develop diseases through the chemicals, some customers have become infected with nail fungus from dirty tools used in the nail salons. This is a communicable disease; another related one is the ringworm. Both the drills which are used sometimes and cuticle pushing can damage the matrix of the nail, causing permanent loss or deformity.
Another area of concern while getting your pedicure or manicure is usage of these recliner chairs with their built in foot baths. These chairs have an integral footbath with re-circulating water that reaches just below the customer’s knees.
