Nature vs. Nurture
Both the nature, in which genes and traits are inherited, and the nurture, or environment, plays an important role in the development of a person. It is a known fact that traits like eye color, hair color, height, and some genetic disorders are inherited from our relatives. The controversial issue is whether we inherit the more abstract characteristics like personality, behavior, and temperament from our ancestry as well, or if they are developed from the environment in which we are brought up in.  
The story of a certain pair of twins who were separated at birth but later reunited support the nature side of this controversial topic. Jim Springer and Jim Lewis had been adopted into different families and grew up 45 miles apart in Ohio. Neither one of them knew they had a twin for the first 39 years of their lives. When they finally found out about each other and met up, they shared some astonishing similarities.   Both had been named James by their adoptive parents, both had married twice; first to women named Linda and second to women named Betty. Both had children, including sons named James Allan. Both had at one time owned dogs named Toy. Their medical histories were also extremely alike. Both had high blood pressure, both had experienced what they thought were heart attacks, both had undergone vasectomies, and both suffered from migraine headaches. The twins discovered they shared parallel habits too. Both chain-smoked, both liked beer, both had woodworking workshops in their garages. Both drove Chevys, both had served as Sheriff's deputies in nearby Ohio counties. They had even vacationed on the same beach in the Florida Gulf Coast. Dr. Thomas Bouchard of University of Minnesota studied the personalities and attitudes of the twin Jims by conducting tests which measured personality variables (tolerance, conformity, flexibility).
