In Russia I was a nurse. I would like to be a nurse in America too.
I need to jump through a lot of hoops to become a nurse in America. I need to understand English and math as well as a high school graduate.
First I need to learn Basic English. Reading, writing, speaking.
Second, I need to learn basic math up to algebra 2
To enter the nursing program I need to
• Pass CPR (cardio pulmonary resuscitation) certification
• Pass a CORI check (criminal offender record information check)
• Pass TEAS-5 (basic skills competency test in reading, math, English, science, language usage
Level of Education
I would like to first get my Associates in Nursing for STCC. This means that I will have take many courses in basic medical science (biology, anatomy and physiology, chemistry) and clinical nursing courses.
Then I would like to get my bachelors degree in nursing. I will have to take advanced clinical nursing and science course to get the second degree.
Tests and Certification
I will have to take many tests to become a Registered nurse. First I have to pass the NCLEX-RN exam. (National Council Licensure Examination for Registered nurses.) I understand this is a very hard exam.
Nursing pays very well. The entry level salary range is between $43,000 to 45,000.
5 Year Advancement
There are many opportunities in nursing. In Moldova I was worked in a doctor’s office helping to treat patients that had less serious medical problems. In America I would like to check-out other nursing opportunities like in the operating room, emergency room, or maybe eldercare nursing or nursing management. The opportunities are endless
