“Organizing is the management function of assembling and coordinating human, financial, physical, informational, and other resources needed to achieve goals” (Bateman & Snell, 2009, pg. 20) This function is also referred to as the function used to build a dynamic organization (Bateman & Snell, 2009, pg. 20). Organization is the function that follows the planning function. In the organizational phase, management synchronizes and combines human, physical, and financial resources. The author of this writing will discuss how Wal-Mart applies the organization function in human resource and technology.
The organization function is important in several ways: it helps bring specialization in various activities, helps identify who is right for a specific job, clarifies authority, creates co-ordination between different departments, and helps defining job positions. The organizing process can be done effectively when management follows these principles: specialization, functional definition, supervision, factors influencing spam control, scalar chain, and unity of command (cite). Organization can be classified into two categories: formal and informal. Formal organization refers to a structure of well-defined jobs, each bearing a measure of responsibility. Informal organization refers to relationships which spontaneously originate within the formal setting. Both are important because they help to bring a smooth and efficient working process.
Organizing takes place is every aspect of an organization. Organizing resources can vary depending on the department. Human Resource is a good department to discuss the importance of the organization function of management. The role of HR changed drastically over the last 15 years.
