The play “OTHELLO” is one of the great tragedy themed plays by William Shakespeare. Othello is a highly esteemed general in the service of Venice. Iago is Othello's loyal friend. Othello promotes the Michael Cassio to the position of personal lieutenant and Iago is jealous this theme of jealousy carries on throughout the play. Iago begins an evil and malicious campaign against Othello. Othello is truly in love with Desdemona but Iago starts to plot against them. Othello becomes jealous on of his major flaws and is suspicious of Desdemona as Iago has planted into his head that she as been cheating with Cassio. He tells Iago that he plans to poison Desdemona, Iago being the man he is tells Othello to do it with his own hands instead. Othello returns to the castle to kill his innocent wife Desdemona. After he has told her multiple times that he is going to kill her he eventually smothers her to death. Emilia tells Othello the truth about Iago and his lies. Othello realising what he has done and how he was betrayed by the one man that he trusted wounds Iago by stabbing him, then kills himself. Iago kills Emilia after she has told everyone what kind of man Iago really is, it is then left to Michael Cassio to decide Iago’s fate and chooses torture as killing him would be to generous.
At the beginning of the play Othello is portrayed as a stereotypical black man he is described with disgusting animal imagery by his trusty man Iago
“A old black ram is tapping your white awe…Barbary horse…making the beast with two backs”
In this quote quotation it refers to the audience as if Othello is a nasty man who just wants woman due to this it is very evident that Iago is crude and unable to understand love and relationships keeping in mind that Iago is married by Iago doing this he establishes himself as a powerful figure.
When Iago runs to Othello after telling Brabantio about Desdemona and Othello’s marriage he tells Othello that Brabantio is looking or...
