    Classical Conditioning is a study that Ivan Pavlov began in the 1980’s.   He wanted to better understand the digestive system of dogs, so he produced a study that analyzed the amount of saliva when the dogs were presented with meat.   The details of this study initiated from Pavlov seeing his hungry dogs salivate from detecting food that was being placed in their trays from another room.   Pavlov vast desire fore knowledge and understanding of his hungry dogs, he rang his doorbell ever time he was about to feed his dogs.   Thereby, the dogs associated the ringing of the doorbell with getting fed, and sometimes there wasn’t any food given.   Accidentally, Pavlov discovered something far more important than his experiment – the capability to operate in associative learning.   Classical conditioning and operant conditioning together is associative learning, which is how humans learn behavior.
    The experiment above is an example of Classic Conditioning using Pavlov’s dogs.   Classic Conditioning is a process of behavior modification by which a subject comes to respond in a desired manner to a previously neutral stimulus that has been repeatedly presented along with an unconditioned stimulus that elicits the desired response.   Natural classic conditioning, too, motivates humans.   For instance, children and doctors offices – many children fear going to the doctor because they associate their doctor’s visits with getting shots.   Or, let’s take recovering addicts for example.   Recovering alcoholics would be cautioned to stay away from bars and other places they are familiar with for the sake of staying sober because those places can cause a relapse in their recovery.
